Situated to the south of Stirling City Centre, Bannockburn, originally a village in its own right is now considered a suburb of Stirling and has a population of around 7000 inhabitants. Bannockburn is named after the Bannock Burn, a tributary of the river forth which runs through the area.
Bannockburn is most commonly known for the battle between King Robert the Bruce and King Edward II which took place in 1314, known as the Battle of Bannockburn. The National Trust for Scotland operate an ever popular visitor centre where tourists and locals can re-live the battle and learn more about the history behind it.
Situated on the south of the city, Bannockburn benefits from extremely quick access to the nearby M9, ideal for commuters. The City Centre can be reached in less than ten minutes by car and there is a frequent bus service into the centre also.
In terms of schooling, Bannockburn Primary School, St Marys Primary School and Bannockburn High School all serve this area. Bannockburn High School was expanded around 10 years ago to cope with the increase in private housing locally and continues to thrive.
